Hard Bargain Coffee and Narine's on 'D' Cross Doubles

It's a bright and sunny Wednesday in the height of the Covid-19 Pandemic with the Delta variant descending upon The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the world and we are going straight into the time of Ancestor worship and a 16 day fast starting today 22nd September 2021, businesses usually see a slump in sales around this period except for when you want doubles and coffee that's why whilst exploring Gulf City Mall  and  the Herbs and Health Shop TLC came across the totally locally grown and ground coffee called Hard Bargain Coffee

from HardBargain a suburb of Williamsville and home to the descendants of the Merikins, Indian descendants from Bharat, Irish and also the Chinese where before the internet or cable or dish networks  arrived or telephone or cellphones the only means of communication was the Williamsville Post Office and every one would write their address eg. C/o Williamsville Post office. Trinidad,W.I or get news on FM & AM Radio and international news on the Shortwave Radio Bands and on the road, even as this blog is being written, by the Trinidadian Mike Men with their Public Addressing Systems that would carry news and announce deaths and play Caribbean Hindustani music.

The taste test, it is a mild Robusta Coffee that goes well with the raw sugar sachet included. One of the tea bag can brew for up to half a dozen high quality cups of coffee and to complement the Coffee there was Doubles from Narine's on D Cross Bay 1, Lady Hailes Avenue, next to the Rienzi-Kirton Highway Marker and opposite the World Famous venue Skinner park where all the Calypso, Chutney & Soca Music Monarchs and Carnival King and Queens are judged and Crowned in the City of San Fernando, T&T and the World at large and outside of the Carnival season if you want to experience local talent at the same Cross Crossing location you can go to Atherley's by the Park and as a performer TUCO South office is on the SAPA side of Skinner Park.

on that note if you ever wanted to know the history of Doubles "Out of the Doubles Kitchen" there is a book that was spotted in Long Circular Mall at RIK  bookshops and digitally downloadable on  Kindle via Amazon.com

Trinidad and Tobago is in a transitional mode as we move away and diversify the economy from a Crude oil and Gas based one to a Clean Energy and Renewable energy and Agricultural based, Seafood based and maybe a Carbon Extraction as Iceland has done and Luxury manufacturing economy.
With the advent of the TTRA - Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority coming online and introduction of Property Tax on the cards with everyone waiting with baited breath for the Budget and Budget debate in Parliament on October 4th 2021.Some will go abroad to the USA and and some will stay in T&T maybe they will need housing before the "Green Card Dulahins" (as explained by local Trini author H.P Singh in his book) relocate as has happened in many decades before when the Trinidad and Tobago economy went from Boom to Bust and Trinidadians migrated abroad.

While eating doubles drinking coffee and reading comics bought at Mohammed's Book store and listening to Local musician Gary Hector who has left local rock band jointpop to release his debut album, National Trash, the song "The Streets of San Fernando" came on.

Tea La La and Milk Tea Trini Limers Crew ,                                 In this Paradise , braved the Sahara dust storm that is blowing over Trinidad and Tobago at this very moment to bring you the latest in local eats and drinks at  Tea La La  Milk and Tea Bakery/ Chai Tea Wallah/ Bubble Tea Cafe at Gulf City Mall on the Left side (Not De Zess Side or Zef Side ) as you enter from the main entrance, stairs or elevator where the old Kiss cake shop and Vegan Juice bar used to be right before Linda's Bakery with disabled access from the elevator on the ground floor. We were served by very kind Angels  like staff ( United Colors of Benetton ) like, who positively attended to all of our needs in the most courteous way, full points to all the ladies and we ordered two Boba Tea drinks plain and zaboca with a strawberry mochi pack as we arrived late in the evening and most locals...
I Scream for Ice cream, Gulf City Mall, Gulf View, La Romaine,City of San Fernando. Welcomes Soody's ice cream shop for locally made ice cream, coffee and desserts, they have joined the ranks of Willie's Ice cream, TCBY Treats, Gelato ice cream shop, to have graced Gulf City Mall. It is accessed from the North Tower Parkade and you can take the futuristic elevator to the 1st Floor and exit towards the west and look for the sign. The prices for ice cream range from $25 and up with as much as 15 flavours to choose from all made with local ingredients, I got the $73 Chocolate Milkshake although one of the  ladies that served me recommended the caramel. When I arrived the shop was empty but with in seconds the floor was packed with parents and their children and singles and the odd couple and the rare Guerilla Gardener Tanty passing through that sold me the Jahaji Bundle diet, a two bundle of bodi to curry and eat with some Sadha roti later.
