Ashoka was an Indian emperor of the Maurya Dynasty, ruling most of the Indian subcontinent from around 268 to 232 BCE. He is one of the most famous and influential rulers in Indian history, largely because of his dramatic transformation after the Kalinga War.

Originally, Ashoka was known for his military conquests and aggressive expansion, but after witnessing the immense suffering caused by the war in Kalinga (modern-day Odisha), he experienced a profound change of heart. He embraced Buddhism and adopted a policy of non-violence, tolerance, and compassion, promoting moral and ethical governance.

Ashoka’s reign is also noted for his efforts to spread Buddhist teachings (an off shoot of Hinduism (Sanatan Dharma) Same as Jesus Teachings) both within India and abroad, including sending missionaries to other parts of Asia. He is often remembered for his "Edicts of Ashoka," a series of inscriptions on rocks and pillars throughout his empire, which outlined his policies and principles, such as religious tolerance, welfare for the common people, and respect for all living beings.

Ashoka’s legacy is significant, as he played a key role in the spread of Buddhism and left a lasting impact on both Indian culture and the broader world.

A Dhaba is a roadside restaurant or eatery, typically found in India, Pakistan, and other parts of South Asia. These establishments are often informal and serve a variety of local, homemade-style dishes, especially traditional Indian and Punjabi cuisine. Dhabas are popular for their casual, rustic atmosphere and are frequented by truck drivers, travelers, and locals alike.

While the quality and ambiance may vary, many dhabhas are known for their delicious, hearty meals at affordable prices. They typically offer a range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, including staple foods like dal (lentils), roti (flatbread), paratha, curries, and biryani. Chai (tea) is also a common offering. Dhabas often specialize in comfort food, prepared with fresh ingredients and cooked in large quantities, making them a favorite for people seeking a satisfying meal on the go.

Some dhabhas are famous for their unique flavors or recipes, and they can be found near highways, on the outskirts of cities, or in smaller towns. Despite their humble setting, many have become iconic for their warmth and authenticity.

Ashoka Dhaba restaurants are located in mainly the Shopping Malls in Trinidad, we have not seen any in Tobago, let us know if there is one.

So Trini Limers Crew ventured out in a war torn land where there are daily deaths where after the Covid-19 Pandemic and now Common Cold (HMPV) virus to bring you this review. The war in Gaza has ceased for now.

The Batter fried shrimps with fried rice

                                                Thailand Green Curry and rice

Sweet and sour chicken and fried rice

Honestly all Trini Limers Crew agreed that for a Dhaba it is not cheap and cheerful it is over priced like the expensive cup of imported coffee that all Trinbagonians like to buy however the food is very tasty and well seasoned for the Trinidadian palate
Asian cuisine is a vibrant tapestry of flavors, colors, and textures that dance across the palate. Imagine the rich umami depth of soy sauce mingling with the delicate sweetness of coconut milk, the aromatic punch of fresh herbs like cilantro and basil, and the perfect balance of salty, sour, sweet, and spicy all in one bite.

I Scream for Ice cream, Gulf City Mall, Gulf View, La Romaine,City of San Fernando. Welcomes Soody's ice cream shop for locally made ice cream, coffee and desserts, they have joined the ranks of Willie's Ice cream, TCBY Treats, Gelato ice cream shop, to have graced Gulf City Mall. It is accessed from the North Tower Parkade and you can take the futuristic elevator to the 1st Floor and exit towards the west and look for the sign. The prices for ice cream range from $25 and up with as much as 15 flavours to choose from all made with local ingredients, I got the $73 Chocolate Milkshake although one of the  ladies that served me recommended the caramel. When I arrived the shop was empty but with in seconds the floor was packed with parents and their children and singles and the odd couple and the rare Guerilla Gardener Tanty passing through that sold me the Jahaji Bundle diet, a two bundle of bodi to curry and eat with some Sadha roti later.
